Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers and The Appetizers to Endgame
After couldn’t get the ticket last week and thought that Captain Marvel is just a bridge movie to Endgame, I went back without any regret… or not. Just a little pissed off when I thought all the people would go to the movie and see Dilan 1991. But I was too wrong. 2 Cinemas and I couldn’t get any ticket. Even in the first cinema, it just 2 tickets left after a long line and within a split second, poof. The ticket (on the only time I could watch it) gone. A big cola cooled me down just fine then.
And after Endgame trailer dropped at the midweek, I will make sure get the ticket and turn off my phone so no one can bother me. And yes, after almost 2 hours, this is the very first time I watch a Marvel movie without any expectation and It exceeds my expectation.
Indeed it was not a solid movie. But since it just a built-up to Endgame, Captain Marvel didn’t need to show off all her ability. Her enemy is… yeah… a couple of ordinary guys. Maybe the mind enemy (that highness lady) was the strongest. And her old Star Force team could be busted easily if she wanted to and… realized how strong she was. Because half of her powers restrained until the mind lady showed up. So yeah, basically just an ordinary basic Marvel origins story with a big tease for the greatest show next month and a charming lady as the main role.
Yeah, charming. Dethrone Diana and Gal Gadot as my number one live-action female comic character. Brie Larson as Carol Danvers is bae~ <3
Every Marvel ladies for me it just either plain or way too much, and sometimes become weird. Pepper Potts could show some good things and played a big role in Stark’s decisions if she was on Civil War. If the studio made Romanoff as their first lady who had her own movie and showed her complete Age of Ultron flashback, maybe it would be a better movie than Captain Marvel. Gamora is quite interesting with her tsundere-ish personality and the hate to Thanos. Could show some great stuff but killed by Thanos. So, just three ladies who attracted me but not enough like let’s say Prince Diana and… just her. Yeah, just her. DC Films (The Dark Knight era) and DCEU have less and the real deal just Wonder Woman… *sigh
But Carol is different. She is a happy-go-(not so)lucky, serious and fragile at the same time. Take her ability and pilot license and you can find a lady like this in real life, maybe in the nearest café or bar. She is so "human" despite her fist can blast some photon energy. A good main character already makes this film better than it should. And apparently, all the reviews have the same thoughts. And Brie Larson did the best to make Carol Danvers "alive". Just a lack of emotion when she realized who she was, and just fine for me. Because what this movie means.
The appetizer to Avengers: Endgame. The most anticipated MCU films after what happened to last year film. After the latest trailer dropped, the hype goes up and up. Stark lands safely at Earth. Steve prepares the strategies. Romanoff with her 3 hairstyles. Barton with his brand new, like GENJIEHHHH hairstyle. Rocket with Rhodey. Antman also there. Thor is here, recharging Stormbreaker. Carol goes back asap when the pager is ringing. And the people already ship this two-old-young-faces hero. Smh...
Everybody wants April comes faster just for it. Even Spencer Dinwiddie wants an NBA day-off because he won't miss it. And I'll do the same to my boss if it's possible and sadly, it isn't, of course. In case you don't know, Spencer Dinwiddie is an NBA player who played for Brooklyn Nets, win 2018 Skill Challange and... yeah... just it. Hope Giannis Antetokoumpo does exactly Dinwiddie does, just like his tweet about where to watch Game of Thrones.
So I give a 7.5/10. Not as solid as Black Panther, just like Homecoming or Dr Strange. It has a really strong message to others woman, and I must admit, it's stronger than Wonder Woman.
If you wanna know who is Captain Marvel and what she capable of because she is the last card Fury has, go to the Cinema asap and find the answer.
In the end, if I can say, this movie is about 25% Captain Marvel, 25% extra Endgame teaser, and 50% of Goose. Cat always make everything purrfect.
