As a Liverpool Fans, Here's My Takeaway About European Super League

Since its last post, I should write about the pandemic, 2020, and all the madness in it. But instead, I write about football. About things that I try to care less about now. Yet the news about European Super League seemed to bother me more than I thought. Well, it wasn't a bother, to be honest. It was pissed me off to the point I literally confused to act.

So, here I try it. By some sort of essay.

European Super League, a thing that already talked about a decade before by Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, finally announced yesterday (18/4). 12 football clubs, including Liverpool FC, will take participant as the founding member.

I try to understand what behind this motive. And the most I find so far are "the competition" and 'the money".

First, competition. Perez, when he proposed the Super League, also found some trouble when talking about the equal opponent in UCL (as the tournament they want to replaced by). That's why he took an interest to gather the finest football club in the world and put them in a league for a better matchup for his team. Because he thought that UCL couldn't give that "equal opponent".

Look, I didn't remember when was the last time some UCL Final (as an example) was a lopsided match. Let's try his club for examples. 2018, Real Madrid against Liverpool FC. Arguably the best attacking team that season. 2017, Real Madrid against Juventus. The tyrant of Serie A. 2016, Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid. The noisy neighbor who prove to be a great contender in Europe and Spain. 2014, Atletico again with their triumph for the league that year. So yeah, I think "the competition" problem wasn't that much of a problem.

Ok, let's move to "the money". Yes, without seeing all of the financial reports of each club, I know all of the football clubs lost their money because of the pandemic. No fans allowed to the stadium for almost a year will take a hit to each of them. I understand when some sort of source of money offering something that many and you won't miss the chance to line up and hope for it. I will do it too.

But here the thing. If all of this is all about money, why each of those clubs didn't ask their most money-maker, the fans? Do they agree if the clubs bail out from UCL/UEL for better money so that we will be more competitive in the domestic scene? Will they watch big-match each week? DO they accept the reality as the CLUB own their player on the absolute level?

Now, UEFA and FIFA are taking this thing to some sort of legal procedure to give sanction to the player who plays for the ESL. Multiple sources said that both of the governing bodies will ban the players from both UEFA (and maybe another federation too) and FIFA competition. That means the best talents from each of the countries won't participate from their national team.

Imagine the England squad without Kane, Rashford, Sterling, and other brilliant talents. Imagine Portugal without Ronaldo, Fernandes, and Jota. Imagine the upcoming Spanish talent won't show up with La Furia Roja. Imagine, the golden generation of USMNT leave out just like that and see America suit up with MLS and NCAA players compete in the World Cup.

And for Liverpool FC, the biggest disappointment today.

What song we sing every goddamn week, eh? What? You'll never walk alone, eh?

Well, did you walk with us now?

Or that just a song now?

You rather walk alone without telling the nearest person to you?

Did you think about the player? The risk if they got banned? Did you think about the outcome of this and if failed, and we drop down to the fifth tier? Are you willing to stay with us? Once again, is it all about the money? OF COURSE, IT IS!

Well, once again I know we need funds. But Jurgen Klopp already makes this football club better, profitable. Earn money more than the earlier day. So when the man that brought you that much money said don't, you better listen to him. But you choose not to, like this season, after he moaned about center back you didn't willing to spend earlier!

What else? Maybe still some excuse about how UEFA didn't pay the club enough. That institution is corrupt as it was in the past. But, by rebelling and breaking rules? Back to my previous point, you do harm your players' international career. Salah, Van Dijk, Alisson, Jota, Thiago, Trent, the captain Henderson, and many more. They are the backbone of the national team for most of them. And you willing to sacrifice their national career? What if the threat to FIFA didn't work? What if, for the most of their career is just to spend as YOUR FOOTBALL CIRCUS?!

This football club is like a family. The family asks the members if someone wants to do something big. Later on, listen to each of the members' opinions about that. If some disagreement happens, we talk about it. We find solutions without harming each other.

You're not.

For the sake of the money, you keep going through shit.

You, betray us.

If it still happens, I'm sorry.

I will find a better way to support Liverpool FC regardless. I support each of them, hell even Loris Karius. I won't leave them. Including Jurgen, Pep, and all the staff. They need full support till the end.

But, as the owner of  Liverpool and probably take a huge involvement in it, please fuck off. Go spend your money back in the States. The Fenway Sports Group is not welcoming again (for me), in the city of Liverpool.

As for all the fans from the 11 clubs, hope we can go through this. I hope we can have our football club back someday.

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
